The natural red color actually comes from a louse, the Cochin-illus living in the Canary Islands. This red little louse puts color on both candy, lipstick and marzipan.
If you want a blank red color, add a few drops of yellow household color. You get pink by using extremely little red, you have to try it out. Purple it will be if you mix in a little blue with the red one.
