history of malaco
Malaco was established in 1934 under the name of Malmö Licorice Compani of Danish A / S Lagerman. The name Malaco just came from the first letters from Malmö Licorice Compani.
Operations were initially at Lundavägen 17 in Malmo but moved in 1948 to a newly built factory in Norbergsgatan in Sofielund's industrial area. Another factory was added in 1968 in Denmark Slagelse (closed 2011). The factory in Malmo was closed in April 2001 and since then in Malmö today is no longer manufacturing but only one layer.
The sale was limited to Scandinavia, but from the 1950s there were also substantial exports to the United States. 1988 acquired Marabou Group. Malaco was effected in 1990 was part of Freia Marabou A / S acquired by Kraft General Foods in 1993. Malaco resold in 1997 to the Dutch food group CSM. After CSM acquired Finnish Huhtamäki confectionery business Leaf (originating, inter alia, Ahlgren Technical Factory), the two companies merged to MalacoLeaf AB.
After a change of ownership in March 2005, MalacoLeaf renamed Leaf. Leaf was acquired in turn by Cloetta in 2011.
